Bronze, Silver, Gold & Platinum

Bronze, Silver and Gold are available from the beginning, giving your organisation the flexibility to work on the environmental actions most relevant to its priorities. Each level contains a set of required tasks. Complete all required tasks within a level to achieve the award and receive your personalised certificate. Additional sustainability initiatives through Innovate are optional and do not count toward the required tasks.

Once Gold is complete, organisations can apply for the GMB Platinum Award — Certified Recognition through independent verification by ZeroBees.

Bronze — Heavily Guided

Heavily guided. Strong explanation, prompts, examples, resources and support. Bronze introduces practical actions such as appointing a sustainability lead, engaging the team, reviewing everyday resource use and identifying opportunities to reduce avoidable waste.

Silver — Guided Application

Guided application. Build on Bronze and apply learning with greater organisational ownership. Silver focuses on annual priorities, team training, purchasing, recycling, utilities, deliveries and reviewing the improvements already introduced.

Gold — Increasingly Self-Directed

Increasingly self-directed. Take significantly greater ownership while continuing to use the same PACE™ methodology. Gold focuses on leadership, supplier engagement, responsible purchasing, consistent implementation, sustained improvements and annual planning.

Complete all required Gold tasks to achieve the award.

Platinum — Certified Recognition

Certified Recognition for completed Gold work. Once Gold is achieved, an organisation can apply for the GMB Platinum Award — independent verification by a ZeroBees verifier, including a 60-minute video assessment. Platinum introduces no new tasks.

Requirement

Complete Gold, then apply for Platinum verification (£995 excluding VAT per organisation).

Same framework. Deeper progression. Greater ownership. Bronze, Silver and Gold are self-assessed CORE Achievement Awards. Platinum is Certified Recognition — a paid, independently verified award available after Gold, delivered by ZeroBees.

Platinum is the GMB Platinum Award — Certified Recognition independently verified by ZeroBees. It is available from the beginning and not required for Bronze, Silver or Gold.

What the platform does not claim

Achieving a Gold award does not mean the organisation is carbon neutral, net zero, independently verified, fully sustainable, regulatorily approved or fully environmentally compliant. Bronze, Silver and Gold are self-assessed CORE Achievement Awards that recognise evidenced practical action and continuous improvement. The Platinum Award is a voluntary, paid, independently verified recognition and is not awarded automatically on completing Gold.
